Apparently, no one told Sonia Sotomayor that Supreme Court justices are supposed to be circumspect, emerging from their marble palace mainly to dispense legal wisdom to law schools, judges' conferences and lawyers' meetings. Since becoming the first Hispanic justice, Sotomayor has mamboed with movie stars, exchanged smooches with musicians at the White House and thrown out the first pitch for her beloved New York Yankees. A famous jazz composer even wrote a song about her: "Wise Latina Woman."

I am pleased to be joining the team here at The Camrose Canadian, and I look forward to bringing you full coverage of the news of the week each Thursday. I'm proud to say that I was born and raised right here in the Camrose area and I have an extensive base of relatives both here in the city and in the surrounding farming locale. My great-grandfather bought a farm just east of Camrose in 1939 in the Kelsey district.  

Grammy-nominated, mega-platinum rock powerhouse Nickelback has announced the 2010 North American leg of their Dark Horse World Tour, a Live Nation-produced event. They will play the BOK Center on April 24. The tour will feature special guests Breaking Benjamin and Shinedown with the opening act and additional dates to be announced.

A Christmas Story , The Musical! , conjuring the frosted magic of a classic 1940s holiday, gets its world premiere at the Kansas City Repertory Theatre beginning Nov. 20-Dec. 27. Scott Davenport Richards penned the score to the musical based on the Jean Shepherd stories and the 1983 MGM film. The libretto is by Joseph Robinette.  

"American Idol" contestants should be thankful that they have caring, sharing Ellen DeGeneres on the panel now and not Katy Perry. The singer was a guest judge for auditions to be featured on next season's show, and she didn't pull any punches with the hopeless hopefuls. "We all have friends or people that we've known that maybe they wanted to be a rock star, or be this or that, and no one ever told them that they can't," she says. "  

Saturday, November 21st. Just about every jazz critic's short list of top singers includes Ella Fitzgerald. It was 75 years ago this evening that her career got its start.  

As Grammy-award winners Boyz II Men release their ninth studio album, the group say 20 years ago they could never have imagained they would be so successful. The trio are the biggest selling male R&B group of all time and are getting ready to celebrate their 20th anniversary. Shawn Stockman said: "We obviously didn't know how far this would take us."
